VISION

The departmental vision of Basic Science & Humanities is to provide an interactive learning atmosphere, with strong mentoring and wide exposure with industry and society wherein the students can strive for excellence.

MISSION

The Basic Science & Humanities department at the Greater Kolkata College of Engineering & Management accomplishes its mission for the undergraduate programme of various streams and contributes to the quality of these programmes by followings step:

  • To inculcate competence and proficiency among students in the field of basic sciences providing appropriate learner centric education.
  • To develop a strong scientific foundation to pursue a successful engineering carrier and to train the students to apply these basic principles to have a sustainable world.
  • To integrate human values and social concerns with technical education.
  • To promote and strengthen R & D programs with other technical institutions in India.
  • To involve students in different social activities for their overall & all round development.

HoD, BSHU,

Mr. Gopal Chakraborty

Assistant Professor, Department of Physics Head of the Department, Department of Basic Science & Humanities

India has given incredible impetus for the development of Science and technology since ancient time. Our country not only has hidden in its womb precious gems and pearls but also has given birth to scientists, technocrats, doctors and academicians of highest merit. Science gives the ideas and technology crystallizes those ideas into a material form. This is the relationship which exists between science and technology. Science extends its field from a very minute nucleon to a huge nebula. Basic science can answer fundamental questions about our world, and lead to wide-ranging applications in research and modern advanced technology. In addition, it is a fundamental to the study of Engineering. Basic science, however, signifies in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English are a group of subjects which play vital role in undergraduate Engineering programs.

I take the privilege to welcome you all to the Department of Basic Science & Humanities. The aim of the department is to impart students a sound knowledge of the theory of subjects like Mathematics, Physics Chemistry & English with exposure to practical knowledge through laboratories and field study. The department of BS&HUM at GKCEM has an excellent infrastructure and state-of-art labs with a teaching faculty of the best kind ensuring quality education. The department has highly qualified faculty with rich teaching & research experience. Department of BS&HUM extents the hands to students to access themselves into the world of creativity and innovation. Irrespective of their subjects and stream specialization, it helps them to be a person of right attitudes to make our Nation proud. We encourage regular interaction among students, parents and staff, along with a strong mentoring cell which works full time for a bright future for the students. We strive to ensure that our graduates understand professional ethics and the value of service to their profession and society through involvement in community, state, and national organizations.
