ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) department at Greater Kolkata College of Engineering and Management, under the JIS Group, was established with an intake of 60 seats in the academic year 2024–2025. The department aims to provide high-quality education in computer applications, focusing on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to meet the evolving demands of the IT industry. With a team of qualified and dedicated faculty members, the department promotes a dynamic learning environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and strong problem-solving abilities among students.

The BCA program is a 4-year undergraduate course under MAKAUT (formerly WBUT) and approved by AICTE. The curriculum emphasizes modern computing techniques, programming languages, and emerging technologies such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Web Development, and Cloud Computing. As a newly introduced program, the department is actively building strong academic and industry connections while offering hands-on training, workshops, and skill development initiatives. Since the first batch started in 2024–2025, there are currently no graduating students, but the department is committed to preparing learners for successful careers in IT, entrepreneurship, and higher studies.

VISION

To deliver quality education in computer applications through an outcome-based teaching–learning process, developing skilled and globally competent IT professionals with strong ethical values, contributing effectively to the IT industry, economy, and society.

MISSION

M1. To provide a strong academic foundation in computer applications through quality teaching–learning processes, integrating theoretical concepts with practical exposure.

M2. To develop technical, analytical, and professional skills among students through outcome-based education and industry-oriented training.

M3. To foster innovation, creativity, and research aptitude by encouraging project-based learning and problem-solving approaches.

M4. To enhance employability by providing skill development programs, workshops, internships, and industry interactions.

M5. To inculcate ethical values, teamwork, communication skills, and a sense of social responsibility among students.

It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to be a part of our growing academic community, where we aim to nurture future-ready professionals and innovators in the field of computer applications. Established in the academic year 2024–2025 with an intake of 60 students, the department is committed to building a strong foundation in computing principles while adapting to the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Our dedicated faculty members strive to provide a balanced blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure across core areas such as programming, database management, software development, and emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Web Technologies, and Cloud Computing. We strongly believe that a clear understanding of fundamentals, combined with hands-on learning, empowers students to adapt to continuous advancements in technology. Through project-based learning, workshops, seminars, and industry interactions, we aim to develop not only technical competence but also problem-solving abilities, creativity, and professional ethics among our students. As a newly established department, we are focused on creating a vibrant academic environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning. Although our first batch has recently commenced and is yet to graduate, we are actively working towards building strong industry connections, research culture, and career-oriented training programs. Our goal is to prepare students for diverse career opportunities in the IT industry, entrepreneurship, and higher education. At GKCEM, we believe learning is a continuous journey that extends beyond the classroom. We encourage our students to explore new ideas, engage in meaningful projects, and develop the skills required to excel in a competitive global environment.
